IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!
I was born Saturday, August 18, 1990, at 5:16 PM. Today is my 27th birthday! For as long as I can remember, my birthday was a time for celebration. My parents made sure that each birthday was special – always with family and friends. When I was younger, there were balloons and clowns, and as I got older, it was music and dancing.
This year is a milestone birthday – it's not a “sweet 16 birthday”, or “finally 21 birthday.” It’s a milestone birthday because it was a year of extreme growth. For me, this is a milestone. Over the past year, I experienced great and sometimes not so great things. Life is easy when all is going well; not so easy when things are not going well. I’ve learned this year to accept the things that I cannot change and to make the most of what I have been given. And, God only gives you what you can handle.
New York is now my home – and this is where I get to celebrate my birthday. I feel very fortunate that I'm here on my special day. I walk out the door, and there are restaurants, bars, and more. Others come here from all corners of the world to celebrate; and I’m already here, ready to go. Sure, it’s not home like California. But, home is where the heart is and today my heart is in New York City. So, let's celebrate!
My birthday wish is to make every day a celebration – for you and me. Let’s make a decision together and cherish each day. We’re happiest when we celebrate, and it makes us think about what’s important. Celebrate each day as if it were your birthday. Your celebration can be big, or it can be small – an accomplishment, friendship, or a tasty dessert. And, take some time to think about your life, all that you’ve done, the people in your life; and all that you’re grateful for.
My gratitude list is long – my family and friends, good health, and what I get to do each day for "work." Now, more than ever, we need this because the world is a little crazy these days – so much hate and not enough love.
